2015 Statewide Majorette Camp
When: January 3, 2015
Where: Dollhouse Dance Factory
1410 Ellis Ave, Jackson, MS 39204
Camp Time: 8am-6pm
Are you prepared to join one of the city’s most fabulous community dance teams and baby dance teams? Are you lacking a few of the necessary skills to make the team? Do you need to “brush up” on what you already know? Do you need to learn how to properly march, kick, roll over, leap or toe touch? Do you just want to enhance your dance knowledge?
Well the 2015 Majorette Dance Camp is where you need to be! This clinic is being offered to assist all young ladies who are interested in the art of the Majorette Dance style. As we approach the peak majorette tryout season we are reaching out to ensure that all young ladies wanting to dance can do so. This camp will be offered at The Dollhouse Dance Factory Dance Studio located at 1410 Ellis Ave. Participants from ages 4-18 will be allowed to participate. Information for all upcoming tryouts and community dance teams who have submitted information will be provided. The fee for the clinic is $30.00 per person for one session and $50 for two sessions.
Camp Instructors:
Ariel Kinsey – Former member of the Prancing J-settes & former Dancing Doll Captain 2004-2010
Ciara – Former Dancing Dolls co-captain 2003-2007 & Baby Dancing Dolls Assistant
Katherine Long – Former doll captain & current Alcorn Golden Girl
Caleda Cooper – Former doll head co-captain and current Alcorn Golden Girl
All clinic participants are asked to do the following:
1) Come dressed in shorts (w/tights or stretch pants underneath) and comfortable t-shirt.
2) Have parent/guardian present to register, fill out forms and pay registration fee.
3) Pay $30.00 registration fee for one session or $50.00 for two sessions.
The clinic will be divided up into sections with time and information taught listed below for each age group. Different techniques will be taught for all age groups.
Mini-Majorette-Ages 4-7
Registration time: 8:30 – Clinic Time: 9am-11am.
Information Taught: Proper stretching techniques, timing, rhythm, basic marching, struts, prancing, arm movements and basics (toe touch, splits, kicks, rollovers). If the criteria for what is being taught in each sessions doesn’t fit your needs, you may move up or down to any class. Ages are set only to separate the classes. Some students in the ages listed above for each section may have already mastered what is offered. You will be able to choose any segment of the clinic to take that you like.
Short & Sassy Majorettes-Ages 8-11
Registration Time: 11:15 – Clinic Time: 11:30am-1:30pm
Information Taught: Proper stretching techniques, timing, rhythm, marching (salt and pepper/swing march), struts, prancing, arm movements and basics (toe touch, splits, kicks, rollovers, back bend and a 64-count routine). If the criteria for what is being taught in each session doesn’t fit your needs, you may move up or down to any class. Ages are set only to separate the classes. Some students in the ages listed above for each section may have already mastered what is offered. You will be able to choose any segment of the clinic that you like.
Divine Diva Majorettes-Ages 12-14
Registration Time: 1:45pm – Clinic Time: 11:30am-1:30pm
Information Taught: Proper stretching techniques, timing, rhythm, marching (salt and pepper and swing march), struts, prancing, arm movements and basics (toe touch, splits, kicks, rollovers, back bends, switch splits, death drop/donkey kick and a 64-count routine). If the criteria for what is being taught in each session doesn’t fit your needs, you may move up or down to any class. Ages are set only to separate the classes. Some students in the ages listed above for each section may have already mastered what is offered. You will be able to choose any segment of the clinic that you like.
Tall & Tough Majorettes-Ages 15-18
Registration Time: 4:15pm – Clinic Time: 4:30-6:30pm
Information Taught: Proper stretching techniques, timing, rhythm, marching (salt and pepper and swing march) struts, prancing, arm movements and the basics (toe touch, slits, kicks, rollovers, back bends, switch splits, death drop/donkey kick, elbow cartwheels and a 64-count routine).
